Every five years, the U.S. Department of Health releases their guidelines on dietary and nutritional health. Their release isn’t accompanied with much fanfare, so it’s up to other groups to spread the word about these important guidelines. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is one of those groups that champions healthy eating and commonsense diet decisions.
The Academy wanted a fun and informative video that would capture the most important changes to the last five year’s guidelines. The video would explain what the guidelines are, how they’re developed, the most important elements of the guidelines, and where to go for more information. The idea was that it would play for consumers to help educate them about proper nutrition standards.
The Academy also wanted to avoid a dry list of guidelines that would not appeal to anyone outside of the nutrition industry. They asked us to create an explainer video that would compress the U.S. Department of Health’s lengthy document into an easy to understand narrative with graphics.
We went to work right away and broke down the video into a story format. Our audience was the public, who knew a little about nutrition, but not enough, and wanted ultimately to be healthy and feel better. But sometimes it’s not easy to find the right information about eating right, especially with every blog and forum telling you contradictory things. That scenario sets up the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as the guide to help people interested in eating a healthy, balanced diet. The plan to overcoming the obstacle is simple, eat with the recommended guidelines in mind. If they do, they would feel better and more energized, but if they didn’t they would feel unhealthy and lack energy. The call to action was to visit the website eatright.org and get more information.
After several suggestions by the dieticians in the Academy, we had a working script to animate. Our animations were chosen to represent the fun, open nature of the video and represent the positivity of the message. The words and images combined to make a great video that educated as well as delighted.
The client was thrilled with the outcome and loved how easy the process was to create the video.
