The Right Type of YouTube Channel for Your Association

Let me give you the answer before I go into the details: You should make a video that gives your audience value.

WHAT IS VALUE?

Value runs the gamut from education to entertainment and gives your audience something for their time.

They’re taking the time to watch you, you need to give them something in return.

When the content you create becomes valuable to them, that’s when they’ll subscribe to you.

HOW TO

Some of the most successful YouTube videos are “How To…” videos. These are popular because they solve an immediate problem.

If you think about what you or someone else might type into google or YouTube, then you will discover a plethora of other problem-solving videos that might work for you.

“Why…” videos. “Why the sun is yellow.”

“Where To…” videos. “Where to find the best wine in Sonoma.”

“What are…” videos. “The best Associations in America.”

Entertainment/comedy videos solve the problem of “What will make me entertained?”

News videos solve “What’s happening today in the world?”

Your own association will have its own unique problems that can be solved with your content.

Once you figure out what value you can bring to your audience and the problem you want to solve for them, the next question is how.

UNLIMITED OPTIONS

In theory, YOU HAVE UNLIMITED OPTIONS but ultimately everything comes down to cost. If cost isn’t a factor you should hire Tom Cruise or the highest respected and highest profile person in your Association’s field to host your video.

But the reality is, cost will be a factor.

TIME

The second factor to consider is time. How long does it take to make each individual video and what is the subsequent result.

For instance, assuming the same quality video, is it better to make a video over 10 weeks that gets 10 views, or a video that takes a day to make and gets 10 views?

If after several tries the same result is present, then you need to switch the types of videos you’re making.

SCHEDULE

If you are able to produce a lot of content, then it’s ideal to release at a particular time on a particular day, according to a schedule you can advertise to your audience. Essentially think of yourself as a TV Channel. If your favorite show was coming on at random times, you’d never be ready for it.

When you release a video, you want as many eyeballs on it from that first moment, as YouTube judges it from the very beginning. Unfortunately, YouTube does not present your video to all of your subscribers, so low interest from the start will make YouTube not want to push it in their search and discovery.

CONSISTENT PROGRAMMING

Ideally, you want to create programming that’s consistent. If your favorite show was coming on, but was very different every time, then you wouldn’t look forward to it as much.

That’s why most successful YouTube channels stick to one subject once they have an engaged audience, and seldom experiment. It’s true that it can get stale, but it’s your job as a creator to make sure that doesn’t happen.

If your audience is not engaged, then you should continually try different types of programming until you release a video that people respond to.

SUMMARY

If you can create programming that is consistent, fits within your budget, adds value to your audience and can be released on a regular schedule, then that will be the optimal programming.

Of course, if you’re wanting to know if you should do live action, documentary style, animation, explainer videos, list videos, lifestyle videos, funny, scary, dramatic etc. that comes down to your own resources, experience and INTUITION, as to what would work for your Association.

Start off by not making things complicated. If you’re having trouble thinking about the actual format, think about what you can actually do realistically and how you could do it to make it consistent and still bring value to your audience.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters.
